The leading provider of industrial CT systems is also a leader in x-ray detector technology.

BIR has been designing and manufacturing x-ray detectors for x-ray computed tomography and digital radiography applications for nearly 25 years. Our linear array detectors are designed for high efficiency and low noise at the high x-ray energies commonly used in industrial and security applications.
Image quality improves when the detector is matched to the source and application. Many providers of industrial CT systems use detectors designed for medical applications. While these detectors are fine for lower energies and certain types of industrial applications‚ they may not be the best solution for others.

Many industrial applications require energy levels above 320 kV for penetrating dense objects such as aluminum castings‚ concrete and asphalt cores‚ earth cores‚ geological specimens and ceramic structures. At these energies you need detector materials that have good stopping power or capture efficiency. If you cannot then stop x-rays‚ you do not collect good photon statistics and image quality suffers.
BIR matches the detector to the application taking into account the capture efficiency‚ temperature stability‚ spatial resolution‚ contrast resolution‚ and noise floor reduction through scatter rejection at the photon level to isolation circuitry at the electronic level. Noise affects image clarity and resolution so less noise means sharper images.

BIR detectors are modular by design. Modularity means easier field service. Modules can be replaced rather then the entire detector array. Modular design also means that BIR detectors can be easily scaled to fit the application‚ when required.
