CT Scanning Service Bureau Capabilities

BIR's x-ray CT inspection service center offers x-ray computed tomography scanning services on a per part or per job basis. Our 225 kV microfocus and 450 kV standard focus systems serve the industrial CT inspection needs of automotive‚ aerospace‚ government agencies‚ forensic investigators‚ museums‚ educational institutions and medical device manufacturers‚ to name a few.

Typical nondestructive applications include:

Metrology
Nondestructive Internal Measurements
Reverse Engineering
First-Article Inspection

3D Volume Analysis
CAD Comparison

Nondestructive Testing
Failure Analysis
Porosity and Void Detection
and Analysis
Crack Detection and Measurement
Delamination Detection
Density Discrimination
Internal Position Information
Forensic Analysis

CT data can be converted to point cloud or STL files for a variety of reverse engineering and analysis applications.

Microfocus Volume CT Services

The BIR CT inspection service center utilizes a 225 kV microfocus CT system for high resolution scanning of small parts and organic specimens. Typical pixel resolution is in the 10 micron to 70 micron range depending on the object's size and material density. This system is used to analyze organic specimens such as animal and human bone‚ small fossils and geological samples‚ anthropological specimens‚ batteries‚ small aluminum and magnesium castings‚ microelectronic components‚ ceramic parts‚ small civil engineering cores (asphalt/concrete) and carbon and fiber composite structures.

Volume CT

Volume CT slice image of a time-release cold capsule showing the medication granules and filler material. The capsule was imaged at 90 kV. The volume stack of 512x512 images consists of 25‚ 50-micron slices acquired in 2.8 minutes and reconstructed in a little over 1.5 minutes. The field of view was 10 mm. Pixel resolution (x and y) is 0.0195 mm. Z is equivalent to the slice thickness (0.050 mm). The capsule itself is about 7-8 mm in diameter.

Standard Focus CT Scanning Services

BIR's CT scanning service center is also equipped with a 450 kV standard focus industrial CT system for imaging large aluminum and magnesium castings (engine blocks and heads)‚ catalytic converters and diesel engine particulate filters‚ aircraft actuators and components‚ medical implant devices‚ fossils‚ large asphalt and concrete cores and small super nickel alloy turbine blades. Typical pixel resolution is in the 150 micron to 300 micron range depending on the object size and material density.
