BIR offers the IntellXTM Gantry Container and Vehicle Inspection system for sites where permanent facilities are impractical. The relocatable facility offers the same imaging system components as permanent systems but in a slightly different configuration. Instead of pulling the vehicle through the x-ray beam‚ the x-ray source and detector translate over the vehicle to generate images of full-size containers in less space than traditional permanent systems and at less cost.
The single linear accelerator x-ray source is available in 2.5‚ 3 or 6 MV. BIR modular detectors arrays are configured with 2.3 mm‚ and 4.6 mm pitch. In typical systems‚ these give pixel resolutions of 1.8 mm and 3.6 mm respectively with 65‚000 gray scales. What’s more‚ the system can be disassembled and relocated if necessary should a port facility layout or logistics patterns change.
The x-ray system gantry and lead shielding are designed to be constructed inside a standard prefabricated structure. The building is equipped with overhead doors to allow trucks to enter. Inside‚ a prefabricated operator control room is provided and a series of x-ray shield panels designed to protect system operators from exposure to radiation.
The end shield panels are equipped with motorized sliding doors to allow trucks to enter the scan bay. When the system is activated‚ the truck remains stationary while the x-ray source‚ pre-collimator‚ and detector array translate along the length of the truck on a series of rails. This rail approach maintains detector and source alignment to create sharp‚ high-quality images in a much smaller footprint than comparable fixed systems.
The image display terminal and image analysis software are based on Windows®XPTM. Movable units can be networked with fixed facilities and linked via wide-area networks to create a complete network of cargo inspection centers covering a large geographical area. Images can be shared between facilities or transmitted and stored in central databases.
